Calecara, Salento wines, Apulia wines. Unique, quality wines. These, although strongly linked to the territory and to a long winemaking tradition, are spokesmen for elegance and modernity all over the world. Production is carried out thanks to the important state-of-the-art facilities that combine tradition with innovation in the best possible way. The grapes destined for wine production are harvested by hand according to the ancient customs of the area in the 70 hectares of vineyards available.
TERRITORY
The Calecara estates are located in the Salento macro-area.
The Calecara estates are located in the Salento macro-area, more precisely in the Salice Salentino Doc and Primitivo di Manduria Doc areas. Here the soil is predominantly calcareous clay, with some sandy areas and others more rocky, with exposed stones. In Salento, the climate is mild and, thanks to the presence of two different air currents, there is a night-time ventilation of the plains, which is able to provide the vines with a wide temperature range, ideal for the final quality of the grapes. In fact, cold Tramontana winds often occur along the Adriatic coasts, while the coasts facing the Ionian Sea are affected by hot North African winds.
In this area, the grapes of Fiano, Primitivo and Negroamaro are grown and harvested; all native Apulian vines that have made the area’s wine production known throughout the world.
THE CELLARS
The Calecara cellars are located in the Salice Salentino DOC and in the Primitivo di Manduria appellation.
The Calecara cellars cover a total area of about 35,000 square meters in the heart of the Salice Salentino DOC and from 2020 also in the Primitivo di Manduria appellation.
All estates are equipped with modern winemaking facilities, cooperage and state-of-the-art bottling lines capable of reaching 7,000 bottles per hour.
